Trapping Raccoons

2054 Views 9 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Shooter
I have two raccoons hunting my chickens in their coop at night, digging, trying to rip through the chicken wire.

I have a small animal trap but so far nothing, won't go in it.

I also have cats so I'm limited there as well.

What is the most efficient way to trap them?

Havahart traps seem to be the standard among critter-getters. Live traps, so your cats should be safe. Raccoons can be bigger than you think, might try a bigger trap.

Then there's coondogs if you don't mind missing some sleep. ;)
I have that style trap but they aren't taking it.

Anyone know how to construct leg traps?
Mornin TXS,
I use these, and they work. I have caught 3 so far.

I still have more tho, 1 ,, 2.

I can't believe how expensive Havaharts are now. Up to $120 for the XL trap they recommend for large raccoons.

What do you bait them with?
Well. I was feedin corn to the deer and they keep eatin it all, so I tried the corn in the bowl in the trap,, and it worked. Good luck.

Peanut butter! Works every time.
I just spoke with him, he caught it!
