Releasing the slide!!!!

My first question on my Bersa 380. I think it's an older model...when I rack the slide back it locks...to release the slide I have to release the magazine about a quarter of an inch before it will release. There is not a slide release anywhere on the gun. Is this normal for the 380?

Since I have just gotten it, I haven't tried with ammo in the magazine so not sure if it will load a round in the chamber and release the slide then..will try it tomorrow when I get some ammo.

That is the typical ppk set-up. All Walther PPK and PPK/s come this way. Its nice to have a Bersa with a slide lock, but it isn't a necessary component.
