To whom it may concern...( Senator or Representative in your State )

As a voter who believes in the U.S. Constitution, I am writing to express my views on gun control legislation currently being discussed in every level of government. I am one of over 100 million law-abiding American citizens who responsibly owns firearms for target shooting, hunting, personal and home defense, and collecting. I care deeply about the Second Amendment, and I am closely monitoring legislation that would restrict my right to keep and bear arms.

I am saddened by the tragic events in Newtown, Connecticut, but I believe that efforts to impose new restrictions on me, a lawful and responsible gun owner, are misguided and unwarranted. The so-called "Assault Weapons Ban," which for a decade restricted the sale of semiautomatic rifles and limited magazine capacity to ten rounds, did not reduce crime, according to a report by the U.S. Department of Justice. And since the expiration of the ban in 2004, violent crime has declined.

Your focus should be on real solutions to the problem of misuse of firearms, such as strengthening mental health care and improving the quality of data supporting the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS).

Do NOT pass more gun or magazine laws; instead, work to enforce the thousands of gun laws already on the books and help step up prosecution of criminals who commit violence and misuse firearms.

Sincerely,

I did that with the Ruger one, emailed it in to everyone, and I got the same canned response from them all... was really disappointing. I hoped at least one would be different! Make ya wonder if they even read or acknowledge the mail from us...

I'm planning on "hand" writing one, but I'm afraid I'm not intelligent enough to speak to a politician (oxymoron). I've been looking on the Internet for a "guide", but never found one.

It's not about how to talk or word a letter to a politician. It's about getting the point across. I happen to be fortunate enough to live 3 blocks from my district rep. He knocks on my door 2 times a year. If nothing more than to say hello. He has attended many neighborhood events as well as bus outings to sports events ect... He has become one with the people in his neighborhood as well as his district. My walls are still partially up as he is a politician but none the less he is a pretty good guy. He is a gun owner. He loves to trap shoot. He is also one of many reps that will oppose any new gun laws that would ban weapons and magazines. He is also for the strengthening of existing gun laws in the state of Illinois. He will be the first to tell you that gun control is not about guns. But rather control. And in Illinois as well as other states, government has lost control. After 911 people stopped caring about there countrymen and began to care about themselves. Mostly the yuppy types with money but none the less nobody cares. This is one of many reasons that your petition was ignored. It is obvious that anyone who is for a gun ban is either a victim themselves or they just don't own guns. Those are the people that will most likely become a victim again. I live in a state that does not have CCW. And I still refuse to be a victim. Sincerely Charter Arms Raging Bull. I should not have to be forced to break the law to keep my peace.
