Bear1998----I actually had a weak recoil spring (I have since replaced) on my Thunder 22---around here (MO.) high velocity 22 cost the same as standard velocity 22----anyway, what I found was that the slide stop on the slide (bottom side) was taking a beating when it hit the slide stop on the main part of the pistol (under the barrel)----Hope that makes sense. Also other parts of the slide started showing increased wear. It was nice however to use standard velocity ammo that I had around. Good luck.

Thanks for your reply....i will keep this in mind. If i dont use it much...its not like it was an arm n a leg. I will most definetly keep an eye on wear if i decide to use it.
Around here (s.c. pa)..standard velocity runs an average 1 to 1.50 per 50 count cheaper than high velocity.
Using the spring is not written in stone.
Thanks sgain for your input....

I had problems with ammo other than CCI Mini-Mags. Switch to them until full break-in, and then thereafter. Ammo is an inexpensive change for the thrill of shooting your BT22.

At some point, you'll be able to shoot other ammo, but it it is sorta of like like running 87 octane in a high-performance engine. Eventually, things will sort out...

Just got mine and took it out today. Mini mags and Remington thunderbolt. 150 rounds through it. First impressions:
  • Feels good and fits my hand nicely
  • Decocker impossible to use, compared to my model 83
  • Bunch of failures to eject and a few to feed
  • Shoots low. Had to dissect the front dot with top of back sights to hit the target at any distance
  • Wish the load assist lever on the magazine was a bit larger, kept jamming under my nail.
Regarding the spring and high velocity ammo, consider leaving the slide open when storing for a little while, it should help with the issue. Another option is to cut a ring or two off the spring, but get a new one before hand :) the end of the spring should be at 12 o'clock, by the sight, from what I've read.

Anything other than CCI-Mini-Mags didn't work at first for me. It DOES need a break-in, and perhaps lots of lube at first. Then again, it will also need some non-lubed shooting to smooth things out. Gave up on anything other than CCI-Mini-mags after the first box; the remainder left for revolvers. They sucked even in my 10/22 and Marlin 99M1.

I got this for my wife, and she was so unimpressed with the FTE and jamming that I got her a Ruger SR22, which she loved. A plus for me with some patience...

Things will get better with use, but stick with high or hyper velocity (like Stinger or Velocitor) ammo for break-in. It can take it!

Wonderful companion to my BT380 Combat CCP!

Took my BT 22 and 380 to the range. CCI velocitor runs great in the 22. mini mags and high velocity cleans cause fte and tfl every magazine. Also, 22 still shooting low, and I know how to aim it. Only 200 rounds through it, so it has some ways to go.

380 is new, first time out after purchase and clean. Shot with 3 different ammo, fmj, flat nose and hollow point. All ran without a hiccup. I'm not as accurate with it as with my 9 or the bersa model 83 I gave up for it, but hopefully I'll get there after break in.

Roman, I found that even though the specs between AE High-velocity and CCI Mini-mags were similar, my BT22 would always choke with the AEs.

Be patient. Stingers and Velocitors are great for break-in, as is some GENTLE hand polishing of the friction points. Also make sure the mags are clean and free of burrs inside. After cleaning and checking for burrs (a micro-fiber cloth works well for that - or cotton-balls) - I use a dry-lube inside the mag. Keep a dremel away from it!

A lot of lube on the rails during break-in sore of defeats the purpose of a break-in. Things need to settle in.

Good luck. Yes, there is pain during break-in for a BT22.

Most did not notice a couple of years ago when CCI made a change in the Mini-Mag Line. There are two types now, one is listed as "Target" @ 1135fps, and the other is the "Hunting" @ 1260. Use the hunting.
Simply being listed as "High Velocity" does not assure that it will be 1260fps or more.

I ordered one these....anybody try one?
Gee, I guess you are addressing an issue I didn't know existed. I have used 40 LR HV (Federal & CCI)and Wolf match standard velocity, without issues. I switched up several times between normal shooting, and using a Gemtech Outback IID suppressor. was just happy my grip screws didn't loosen.

Well, the ebay ad says it is a factory new spring,,,, it is not a Bersa Spring, because they do not make a reduced power spring. Using this could lead to damaging your firearm, and voiding your Lifetime warranty.

I wouldn't risk the damage to the Slide Stop Block and Frame. It could also void your warranty.
Most of them will cycle decent ammo after breaking in a bit, but cheap ammo is what it is for a reason.

I recently got burned by the cci folks sneaky change to their line now selling an underpowered version calling it (target). It is still pretty good ammo but it won't reliably operate a T22. Seems deceptive to me.

I also recently got burned by Winchester Super X ammo designated as (Super Speed) @ 1300fps 40 gr round nose copper plated (X22LRSS1). I found this at a decent price and since it was rated above the 1260 or 1280 fps that is supposed to operate the T22 I jumped in and bought 2000 rds. It don't work in a T22, is not uncommon for this junk to jamb 3 or 4 times in a 10 rd mag.

Yet plain old Rem Thunderbolts work great in the T22, I just like the copper plated bullets instead of lead round nose.

I really think Bersa needs to offer a spring that is a slightly softer rate (maybe only 10%) that would allow this great little gun to eat the slightly marginal high velocity ammo (color code the softer spring, this spring can be changed in 30 seconds with your eyes closed). The hyper velocity stuff is just too costly and still hard to find in my area. I finally got my hands on some Rem. Golden Bullets (copper plated) the other day and I am hoping they will work but I have not had a chance to try them yet.

I am disappointed by how picky this gun is on ammo, I was aware that it required high velocity ammo but I was not expecting it to not work with so many high velocity rounds. I don't like using hyper velocity rounds to plink with. When it is working there isn't a more satisfying shooter.
