What did you do today that was gun related?

In a hope to get more interest going, I have borrowed the idea for this thread from another forum. The thread has been around for a while, so to date there are over 1300 responses.

I'll start with it being a rarity for me, but I have been involved with gun activity two days in a row. Yesterday I picked up a nice range bag and a bore snake at Wally World. Today I set up the new range bag and cleaned my primary EDC and broke in the new bore snake in the process..

After a week of dry firing exercises using a snap cap, I took the Nano back the range to try some more ammo and to work on control and accuracy. A couple of days ago I'd also put some talon grips on it. I find that I need that with most small poly pistols.

Whether it was the work I'd done on trigger control over the past week, the talon grips, or both; my accuracy was much better today than it was last week. Shooting at 50' feet I was hitting center of mass consistently, which is what I'm going for with a compact carry pistol. There were few exceptions to that statement, noted below.

While there I brought some new ammo and some old to test. I'm finding this gun is a bit finnicky. The Herters 115gr and Rem Golden Sabers mentioned in the previous post both ran flawlessly again.

I brought a box of CCI Blazer Brass 124gr FMJ. Much like the Winchester WB mentioned in the previous post, I couldn't get through a mag of this without a FTE. Sadly, I'd always had good luck with this ammo in other pistols, and so I'd just ordered 300 rounds of it at a cheap price to use as the pistol's ammo over the next couple of weeks. It will now be fed to my EAA CZ75 clone.

My friend had brought 200 rounds of Federal Aluminum Cased 115gr FMJ, and I ended up trading him what remained of my CCI Blazer Brass for some of this. It ran well through the pistol, but the accuracy was hit or miss (pun intended!) This is the exception I mentioned to getting all hits on center of mass. Counting holes on the paper, about every 3rd or 4th round was a flyer. I had some really good hits with this too.

Lastly, I tried Remington UMC 147gr FMJ. It also ran really well. Also less recoil than I'd expected. Depending on price, I'm considering this for training ammo with it.

Everything I'd read about the Nano said a lot of them had issues with 115gr ammo, and you needed to use 124gr or higher. So far, my experience has been almost the opposite. Every 115gr ammo I've tried has cycled just fine. Only the Remington 124gr sabers and 147gr FMJ have worked so far in the larger sizes. I think I'm going to try different brands of 115gr and some of the 124gr Euro brands like Prvi Partizan and Fiochi.

Renaldo, just out of curiosity, with such a small pistol, how's the bite or sting on that when firing? Often times, your smaller guns are snappy and sting when firing.

No issues there, at least for me. I expect the same for most people. I will say that I'm fine with shooting a gun with a 2 finger grip. I usually pocket carry an LCP or a S&W airweight with minimal plastic Altamont grips, so my grip is pretty solid with 2 fingers and I'm comfortable with small pistols and their bite.

For some comparisons, with most ammo the LCP has a bite to me, as does the airweight -- especially if I'm shooting 38spl +P. The Nano doesn't have that at all, I've been shooting about 150-200 rounds through it at both sessions so far and it's been pleasant. No snappiness at all. There is muzzle flip as you might expect, but the talon grips have made that very manageable.

The Nano is slightly smaller than other compact 9's, but it's also about 3-4 oz heavier, and I think that's on purpose. I think that makes all the difference (at least for me) with recoil.

My shooting buddy brought his wife's G43 along to compare with it and so we shot some of the same ammo through both. For me, the G43 was easier to control with much less muzzle jump, but it had more felt recoil. The Nano had more muzzle jump but less felt recoil. That was with the Federal 115gr and Herters 115gr, both FMJ.

Now Pancho that is not nice of you to post a picture of all those wheel guns when you know how much I love them!

Like showing mice a picture of cheese.

Love the Blackhawk .41 mag and the LCR.

The Speed Six would be nice with a shorter grip.

But that is probably a former police sidearm and they need the full grip.

Thanks for sharing.

Knew you could get away with it due to the distance between us!

God bless you and your family brother!!

Michael

I just finished installing an XS Tritium sight on my Ruger LCRx 357.

I took it to the range today and it took me awhile to learn POA vs POI but i did end up getting a couple 2 inch groups at 7 yds. I think I'll keep it.

Picked up a 3-9x40 Leupold scope for cheap yesterday from a buddy. He sold the gun and the guy didn’t want to pay extra for the scope so I got it cheap. I made an offer on a brand new still in the box unfired .17 HMR New England Arms heavy barrel. These things are getting harder to find used much less new. Guy said he would let me know something Monday or Tuesday. I also found a gently used.22LR heavy barrel New England Arms rifle from another guy and I’m waiting on some pictures of it.

If I get one or both of these I’m going to order a Boyd’s stock in my wife’s favorite color and build her a small caliber target rifle that she can shoot at the range with me. Thinking ahead for Christmas.

Found this local gun store that you all may like. they have LEO trade-ins, military surplus, ammo, etc. I bought the Beretta Model 81 the other day:

https://aimsurplus.com/new/

I'm sure they'd ship to your FFL dealer.

Went and picked up two NEF rifles today that I bought online.

1st one is a 22lr sportster with a 4x32 scope. Some one cut the back of the hammer off but think I found a hammer for it and while I’m in it I’m going to change out the firing pin just for good measure. Haven’t decided if I’m going to build this one for my wife or the other one I got today.

Rifle #2

I found a brand new still in the box unfired .17 HMR 22” Bull barrel! Score! Beautiful rifle.

Which ever one I build for her I’m going to get a Boyd’s stock for it in her favorite color. If I do the .22 I will have it Cerakoted to match the stock.

I fiddled with my Redding T-7 turret press, which I have yet to use. I ran through the primer seater plug replacement process. I also had to remove a little surface rust, which surprised me, since it has been sitting in the garage, which gets pretty hot in the Summer and cooks off any moisture in there, or so I thought.

My 40 year old single stage press does the same thing. The bare metal parts will start rusting unless I keep them covered with some kinda oil or grease. It's in a shed and I should bring it in. I had to with my bullet sizer ane luber. It got really bad when I quit casting bullets. It just sat there for years. I had to clean it and bring it in. Might have to get the press as well. I bought all my loading dies inside a few years ago cause tghey were starting to rust. I only pull out the ones I need now.

Went grocery shopping today. Stopped at a Wally World 40 miles north of here and went to check on the ammo situation about no more pistol or high cap type rifle ammo. Therre was a line of people buying ammo and even a few guns. I had not seen that many at the countger in a long time. A lot of the less expebsive FMJ pistol ammo was already gone. So, I got some too. A few hundred rounds of 9 and .45 Rem and Fed. Got a large box of the bulk pack Rem Golden Bullets too. Lady told one of the customers that they would be selling all of the stock that the warehouses had and that woul be it.
